TIDE by Stuart Haygarth

The original Tide chandelier is part of a larger body of work based on the collection of ' man made' debris washed up on a specific stretch of Kent coastline. I have been collecting material over many years and the work is still in progress. The material collected is sorted and categorized and several individual pieces of work were produced.

The Tide chandelier is created from clear and translucent objects, primarily made of plastic. Each object is different in shape and form, yet they come together to produce one sphere. The sphere is an analogy for the moon which effects the tides which in turn wash up the debris.

SPECTACLE by Stuart Haygarth

Spectacle is created from over 1000 pairs of prescription spectacles which are linked together to resemble a traditional tiered chandelier. By using prescriptive spectacles which were once an essential tool for seeing an interesting analogy is drawn between their old and new purposes. A mirror ball light effect is produced as the light is refracted through the several layers of lenses.

TAIL LIGHT by Stuatr Haygarth

We spend a great deal of time behind vehicles, be it as a driver, passenger or cyclist. I became intrigued by the lenses covering vehicle lights – there complexity and beauty. I saw these lenses as lampshades for vehicle lights. The Tail light is created from carefully selected vehicle light lenses mainly from trucks, tractors and trailers. At present there are two versions or configurations, slim and fat. The selected lenses are grouped by style and size and attached to acrylic boxes to form robotic structures. The light structures are hung from the ceiling and illuminated by one 60w fluorescent white tube. When the vehicle lenses are illuminated they are reminiscent of stained glass.

MILLENNIUM by Stuart Haygarth

The original prototype is made from 1000 exploded party poppers collected ( on 01.01.00 ) after the Millennium celebrations in London. Each popper is suspended on a line from a platform above. The sculptural shape sways and moves like an organic form when hit by a breeze of air. Although this original light is a ' one off ' piece due to the narrative it is recreated using new party poppers. The multi-coloured version is created from blue, green, red, yellow and white poppers. There is also a black edition created purely from black poppers
